Paperclay

Paperclay or fiberclay is clay that has been turned into a goo, by adding paper. Paper can be mixed with any kind of clay to create paper clay such as terracotta and earthenware. Paperclay sculptures can be kiln fired at the same temperatures as any other clay model such as terracotta. When the paperclay sculpture is dry, it is extremely strong due to the paper. It can also be glazed like any other clay sculpture.

The only difference between paperclay and normal clay is that paperclay has tiny fibers in the molecular structure. This makes paperclay significantly stronger than normal clay sculptures. Modeling methods with paperclay is the same as with standard types of clay like terracotta, except the strength of paperclay allows for thinner and more intricate details.

Another advantage of paperclay is that it allows strong bonds between sculpture components that have already fully dried. This makes it a great material to use in clay sculpture repairs, both old and modern sculptures.
